Kids Are Expensive … Their Clothes Don’t Have to Be
Nanuet, NY
Your car costs almost as much to feed as your family. Daily Wall Street charts look like seismographs during an earthquake.
When economic times get tough, Americans get creative. Example: Jennifer’s Kids, an on-consignment upscale children’s boutique at 400A Nanuet Mall South (next to TumbleBee).
The only children’s consignment shop in Rockland County is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
Jennifer’s delivers name-brand clothing at fractions of name brand prices, and deals don’t stop with clothes. Snowboards, video games, toys, shoes and baby items are part of the quality bargain merchandise.
Everything comes from resourceful Average Janes and Joes looking to salvage a little money from perfectly good things they have no more need for.
The way it works is simple. Jennifer’s only takes good stuff and gives the items it accepts 60 days to sell. If they do, Jennifer’s and the donors split the money 50/50.
Whatever doesn’t sell, owners can retrieve or leave. Jennifer’s donates what they leave to the local People to People charity. The store currently is helping raise money for the People to People food pantry.
Customers of Jennifer’s Kids have learned that the inventory is always changing. Enough items to fill a room come through the doors each week.
That’s resourcefulness by all involved.
