Nanuet, NY

You’ve probably seen the building at 374 South Middletown Road in Nanuet for years, the little deli restaurant tucked between the car wash and gas station.
That’s what you remember it as, a grab-and-go place with a truck stop feel. Now you see the familiar Mr. D’s sign is gone, replaced by Borderline Grill. Step inside and you’ll see instantly that the change is more than cosmetic.
“The outside is a little deceiving,” Borderline co-owner Mike Constantinides said. “You drive past and it gets lost between the car wash and gas station. But you walk in and you’re in a different place.”
The hurry-up cafeteria feel is gone. Borderline Grill (part of the property is in Nanuet, part in Pearl River) invites you to sit, relax and dine on offerings from a radically revamped/broadened menu. Any meal on it, from breakfast to dinner, is available at all hours.
Customers are welcome to bring their own wine to complement entrees that include burgers, steaks, fish and pasta.
The menu is constantly evolving and attuned to the seasons, and the food is fresh, not frozen. The dining area is redesigned and double its old size.
“A lot of beautiful restaurants are called grills,” Borderline co-owner Tony Antoniou said. “We’re a nice, local family place where you can sit and be comfortable and get a good meal and good service at a good price.”
“That’s what we thought was missing here,” Mike said.
Mike and Tony are cousins who have the restaurant business in their blood. Their restaurateur parents have worked together for decades, and the cousins saw their opportunity in Nanuet.
“We’ve always wanted to go into business together, but it was never the right time,” Tony said. “This just happened to be the right place and the right time.”
Area residents have been steadily stopping to investigate since the building became Borderline Grill in September.
“People will be shocked to find the food that we have here for our prices,” Tony said. “You’re not going to come here and spend $50 a person, but you’re going to get food that’s equivalent to that quality.”
“You’ll be pleasantly surprised.”

My wife and I have become regulars at the Borderline Grill. The menu varies from burgers to steaks and fresh fish. Great daily specials too. Everything is always cooked to perfection and the service is excellent. Great friendly atmosphere and the prices are ridiculously cheap considering the quality of food they serve. Everything on the menu is tasty, but you have to try the porterhouse pork chop and the jambalaya.
